You're living in the projects

I lived in the Fillmore Center for 5 years, but only because I slipped through the cracks and never had a rent increase. Let's see...found used condoms and syringes in the fire stairwell (l lived on the 5th floor and the 3rd floor lead to the street exit so I used the stairwells very often). People from the projects would sneak in and use the laundry room. Oh and while they were there, they would steal clothes. The Fillmore's response was that we shouldn't leave our clothes unattended, but then they didn't provide any place to sit either. I didn't own a car, so I don't know how good or bad parking was. But I do know there are spaces that you have to pay for under each building. There's a police station on the corner of Turk and Fillmore, which should make you feel safe. However, the police never patrol the immediate area, they're always out driving around other parts of their district. I saw drug deals going on RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STATION and they had no clue despite the cameras. The Muni stop on Turk and Fillmore is a drug den and the dealers will wave the bus on even if you're standing there. I have friends who have lived there for years, but if I were to return to SF...Fillmore Center would not be a choice...at all. |
